You surely enjoyed the spring-like warmth that settled in France during February…
For the vine, these weather fluctuations are far from good news! Indeed, the rise in temperatures causes the vine to start its activity again, with sap rising. The prematurely sprouted buds, due to excessively mild temperatures too early, are vulnerable to a new cold snap. Frost can lead to the death of the shoots and thus compromise the future harvest. Winemakers fear late frosts until the “Ice Saints” (celebrated in mid-May).
We unfortunately experienced this in 2017 with a loss of 80% of the harvest at Châteaux Chêne-Vieux and Musset. That’s why you won’t be able to enjoy our 2017 vintage: the harvest was too small to be bottled. Rest assured, the 2018 vintage holds great promise, and while you wait to taste it, you can focus on all the other vintages available in stock!

Let’s hope the weather at the start of this spring remains favorable 😎
